The Open Hardware Diversity Alliance formed in August 2021 with a partnership between RISC-V, Chips Alliance, OpenPower Foundation, Western Digital, and IBM with a mission to provide programs to encourage participation and support the professional advancement of women and underrepresented individuals in open source hardware. We asked ourselves: Why are there few women and underrepresented individuals in the open hardware community? Is it because open hardware is hard to navigate? Is career progression a mystery? Is it a lack of visibility of the talent in open hardware to the community? In this panel, we will have a representative from various career stages who will share their stories and successes for (1) the individual to get ideas on actions they can take and (2) for organizations to identify specific activities they can bring into their organization.
