This session will focus on CHAOSS Metrics gathered for over 50,000 open source software projects, how that data is managed, and the implementation of an 11 algorithm machine learning pipeline to make the most vital areas of concern, and the projects with the greatest opportunity and risk more visible. We emphasize our work applying these technologies to the challenges of dependency risk, and security vulnerabilities. We then show the potentially larger impact of CHAOSS metrics, and Augur AI for advancing open source project health. Dependencies are a critical threat to security. When managing dependencies there are varying levels of complexity and context. Specifically, this talk will review how the CHAOSS Risk Working Group is developing a set of Minimum Viable Metrics that consider: Direct, transitive, interdependent, and circular dependencies. We then discuss the range of variables that can add contextual dimensions to inform how these dependencies can be measured, and a common AI Pipeline for measuring, mitigating, and developing early warning systems.
