Bosch as well as many other industrial companies use GNU/Linux as an operating system for a large portion of the devices they produce in particular in the AIoT context. While Linux distributions have done a great job to compile and maintain a consistent set of packages to provide the software stack for these devices it still requires huge extra efforts to fulfil the increasing requirements over the entire device life cycle. Currently, they are solved individually for each device class. As it is based on open source the question is if a significant part of this work could also be done in an open source way with all the positive effects that we can see in the community. In the last year Bosch has been working on aligning their Linux activities, create a common view, and identify opportunities to collaborate internally as well as with other companies on these topics.
